Winters are just hell days for those having dry skin, while the problem is not period specific, it may have any reason to occur, thus we need to be ready & prepared to fight it.
Below here, though all points are not covered, but the major ones affecting over 85% - 90% people are listed, along with few solutions.
CAUSES
1) Cold Environmental Conditions
: Since childhood we are advised by our parents to cover up selves from head to toe when there's chill outside there. The reason being harmful freezing air. It sucks all our moisture and lays skin absolutely dehydrated leading to sores on cheeks, torn lips, etc. Thus people living in cold places or with the occurunce of cold season we commonly find dermatologist clinics crowding up and n number of moisturizers being marketed which may even worsen the skin.
2) Ageing skin
: Due to lack of nourishment, the aging skin tends to dry up. Sometimes even type of your skin may change drastically, consequently though wrinkles are not formed due to dry skin but such skin gives us the appearance of wrinkles and more aged the person looks. Thus steps to control the aging are discussed in various blogs here though to summarize, use of proper moisturizer is must along with the dietary regulations as discussed below.
3) Bathing for long with Hot water
: Yes tub time feels like a luxury, but it can wreak havoc on your skin by drying it out if done too often or if the water is too hot. Hot water strips out the moisture and oils of your skin, leaving it parched, dry and scaly. Though it may be inconvenient, use warm water instead of hot water when you shower or take a bath, and limit your bath to 15 minutes at the most. So now we know how the water along with the dirt, may remove skin nutrition too.
4) Swimming in high chlorinated water
: Chlorine is added in the pool with an aim to cleanse the water but the same thing can dry out your skin and make it feel tight and itchy. Sebum - a protective layer of your skin get stripped off due to excessive Chlorinated water. Sensitive skin holders might even get irritation or rashes due to chlorine. As it strips the skin of its natural oils, therefore, exacerbating moisture loss thus leading to dehydration. It can make your skin look dull and dark as found after regular swimming sessions.
What should pool babies do then ?
- Firstly, Wet your skin with non-chlorinated water. It can lessen the amount that can be absorbed and lower the risk of irritation.
- Second step, Apply a chlorine neutralizing lotion before swimming. It prevents rashes caused by chlorine and minimize any skin damage. Plus sunscreen should be used if swimming outdoors as UV rays may magnify.
- Lastly, Get a fresh water shower as soon as you get out of the pool as it can help to reduce the moisture loss . If available, swim in salt water pools or in ocean.
5) Highly harsh Soaps, Shampoos, Detergents, etc
: Forget winter dryness – those who have dry skin can experience tightness and scaliness of skin even during normal seasons. Cleansing with the wrong type of soap and using improper cleansing methods can exacerbate the appearance of dry skin. If you have extremely dry skin, you should avoid washing with harsh soaps, which can strip your skin of its natural moisturizers. pH of dry skin is very low, thus such skin is extremely acidic. Hence, choosing a correct soap needs perfect research which this blog will post in the future content.
